Believe it or not, Mike created Lavenous as a way to annoy his little sister!
Mike was watching a cartoon where the characters were playing scrabble. The father wanted to win, so he made up a word that his daughter challenged him on and she asked him to show her in the dictionary. The father was very wealthy and before giving her the dictionary, he called Webster's on his cell phone and is heard saying… "How much would it cost to make a made up word an actual word?" He gets and answer and says "fine that's no problem!" He is asked to provide a definition and as a result, the daughter angrily loses the game.
Mike was watching with his little sister and vowed HE TOO would make up a word… His sister asks what the word will be? Mike responded off the top of his head with "Lavenous." His sister rolled her eyes and like the cartoon asks for it's definition… Mike responded that it will NOT HAVE JUST ONE DEFINITION… he said it would limit how it can be used too much and that a person can use it anyway he or she deems worthy. His sister rolls her eyes yet again.
That night in his magic show Mike started to work in the word lavenous every chance he could. The audience pretends to understand lavenous and Mike lets them know it's his own made up word. The audience is delighted and laughs hysterically. This further annoys his sister more. Because of this, Mike continues to do it night after night and his sister begged him to stop because “it just wasn't funny!" Mike replies that the audience disagrees with her. So to continue his torture, Mike got a single t-shirt made that read “I'm Lavenous!" Because his sister worked for him… Mike made it her official uniform asking her to wear it. His sister wouldn't have it but finally laughed at it's preposterousness.
Mike was going to simply throw the shirt away and instead decided during his show, to let the audience in on the whole joke. Mike then showed the shirt to great laughter and then gave the t-shirt to a little boy that helped out on stage that night. After the show was over at Mike's meet-n-greet in the theatre lobby, people not only came to say hello, they kept asking where they could buy a lavenous shirt for themselves! The rest was history. Mike's sister had to sell the shirts every single night, it is said that she still doesn't think it's funny, but 10's of thousands disagree with her!
Not only do people LOVE the shirts… they started a game called the 'Lavenous' Photo game. This is where families take pictures in obscure destinations, with famous landmarks, or while just being silly and send them to Mike!
As a result, the shirts continue to travel the world and it has become people’s mission to take interesting pics while wearing the shirts… Your imagination is the limit!
